Environment & Sustainability – Insulite Block Products
All Insulite blocks manufactured at Stocks Bros. Limited have been designed and are manufactured using best practise regarding the environment and the impact we have upon it.

With this in mind great consideration is given to the aggregates used in the manufacturing process.

Ash supplies come from various sources in particular Generators who use high levels of Bio-mass (renewable energy sources) and re-covered/recycled ash from our own licensed Waste Transfer Stations.

Other Aggregates used are from secondary processes within the steel industry which would previously have been sent to landfill.

90% of the material used in the production is recycled or waste, the only virgin material used during the manufacture of our Insulite blocks is cement, this being kept to a minimum by the controlled use of Pulverised Fuel Ash, a secondary aggregate.

Other block ranges use smaller percentages of recycled or waste materials.

Over 95% of Stocks Blocks weight less than 20kg

Much can be done to improve the safe handling and use of concrete blocks by following adequate consideration to health and safety aspects at the appropriate stage in the construction programme. It is recommended that repetitive manual handling of blocks over 20kg should be subject to a risk assessment and a safe system of work should be established before block-laying commences.

* The contractor may comply with the above as a prescriptive specification in which case every aspect of the specification shall be adhered to as stated. Alternatively the contractor may treat this specification as an example specification for the manufacturer and type of blocks only which matches the performance criteria required. If he elects to do so then it shall be his responsibility to ensure that the performance of any alternative blockwork proposed by him matches the performance of that specified above.
Adequate evidence shall be provided to the CA directly comparing the performance of any alternative with that specified above. Particular attention must be paid to shrinkage tolerance and quality of surface appearance. Visible blockwork may only be obtained from a single source. In default of the above conditions the contractor shall provide the prescribed specification.
